Synthesis, Verification, and Optimization of Cyber-Physical Systems

As recognized by the research community, cyber-physical systems (CPSs) must be reliable, secure, safe, efficient, and operate in real-time. This position paper focuses on (1) the grand challenges for CPSs, (2) requirements for CPSs, and (3) architectures for CPSs. Grand challenges include the design/synthesis, verification, and optimization of CPSs, which require enhancements of existing techniques and more likely the development of new methods to tackle the complexity and the multiple contexts in which CPSs operate. In particular, we outline promising solution strategies for the synthesis, verification, and optimization of these systems to meet their requirements. Optimization strategies are used to derive the optimal architectures or processing platform(s) for CPSs.
